flat renovation in block housing, Ursynów

We aimed to prove that a flat in block housing can be both attractive and original. The starting point was the decision to expose the raw material of large scale structural elements (concrete prefabricates) forming partition walls. Employment of bright wood elements, plywood and Mondrian-inspired colours, gave the effect of lightness and a certain timelessness.

The greatest impact on the existing building structure was the execution of three new window openings in the blank facade of the building, as well as enlarging the windows giving access to a balcony. The small scale of the construction site and the limitations imposed by the adjacent occupied flats meant that we needed to employ alternative solutions to those typically employed for large scale construction sites.

An unexpected challenge was the need to convince the construction team that a raw concrete aesthetic was really a feature desired by the architect!
